Louis Vuitton has converted a historic theatre in downtown Rome into its newest Maison flagship.

And in acknowledgement of the building’s history, the three story, 1200sqm store is the first to incorporate a cinema.

The historic Spazio Etoile building - home of Rome’s first picture theatre - looks decidedly unsophisticated from the exterior - an almost bland building squeezed between much more decadently-adorned historic stone buildings.

But inside, the new store is as opulent and stylish as one would expect from a brand with the heritage of Louis Vuitton.

Étoile Maison, as the store is named, takes shoppers on a journey through modern fashion using equal parts handbags and high definition.

The store opened on January 29 on the San Lorenzo in Lucina Square - becoming the first of the global ‘Maison’ flagships in a key European cultural city.

The ground level 19-seat cinema, features state of the art sound directional technology to restrict soundtracks to the stall style seating. It displays short films by renowned directors.

Based on interior architect Peter Marino’s open design concept, the cinema can also be viewed from the men’s floor on the second story.

The accompanying photographs demonstrate the high standard of store design and fitout - and the YouTube video explains Louis Vuitton’s commitment to Italy’s cinema industry, with images of the building as it used to be.
