Hollister confirms Oz

By Inside Retail

As first reported by Inside Retail in June, Abercrombie & Fitch has confirmed it will make its much anticipated entry to the Australian market via the Hollister brand.

The first Australian Hollister store will open next year. It is understood the brand will open in a mall-based location to test the market prior to opening an international grade Abercrombie & Fitch (A&F) store.

Jonathan Ramsden, A&F CFO and executive vice president, said company believes that "Hollister international store openings represent a low risk, high return use of capital".

The store is one of 20 international Hollister openings in 2013.

Like sister brand, A&F, Hollister is known for its dark lighting and signature scent which is pumped around its stores.

Hollister stocks casual youth fashion for men and women, with its target market predominately teens in the 14 to 18 age range.

In addition to the A&F and Hollister chains, the holding company is also responsible for Abercrombie Kids and Gilly Hicks. The Gilly Hicks lingerie and sleepwear concept is based on a Rose Bay residence in Sydney, Australia, inspired by the phrase 'down under'.

Visited the 5th Avenue store in NYC in May, just an outstanding example of contemporary experential retailing.

Their market cap and sales show a very "fit" retail business.
