Asos reveals fire damage


AsosIt’s business as usual again for Asos after 20 per cent of its stock was wiped out on the weekend by a fire at its main warehouse in Barnsley, norther England.

The deliberately lit fire took hold around 9:50pm on Friday.

Around 70 per cent of Asos stock is held at Barnsley, with the business having around £159 million worth of stock in total at the end of May.

Asos close its website and suspened orders for 48 hours in order to assess the damage.

No technology, automation, or structural damage was sustained in the fire, with the only loss being 20 per cent of total stock at the site, which has been compromised by fire damage and sprinkler systems.

The business is fully insured for loss of stock and business interruption.

South Yorkshire Police are treating the incident as deliberate and have commenced a criminal enquiry.
