Uniqlo heads to Queensland

uniqloJapanese clothing giant, Uniqlo, will open its first stores in Queensland later this year, with two stores in the Brisbane CBD and Indooroopilly shopping centre.

The two new stores, located in central Brisbane and Brisbane’s West will take Uniqlo’s total number of stores in Australia to nine, with three already in Victoria and four in NSW. Last month, Uniqlo confirmed its third Victorian store will open in late 2015 in the redeveloped Eastland centre, in Melbourne’s east.

Uniqlo Brisbane, located in Queen St Mall, will span more than 2054sqm, while the Indooroopilly store will occupy floor space at the redeveloped shopping centre. The stores will offer customers a full line up of Uniqlo apparel and showcase its spring/summer ‘15 collection, including the brand’s AIRism range.

“Since opening our first store in Melbourne last year, Uniqlo has gained a huge following across the country, with shoppers eager to experience our functional, affordable clothing,” Shoichi Miyasaka, CEO of Uniqlo Australia said.

“We’re incredibly excited to be opening two Queensland stores this summer, and making the brand more accessible to Australian consumers. Queensland was the next logical step for us in Australia, with our wide range of everyday products and innovative fabric technology suitable for the versatile lifestyles of those in the sunshine state.”

Uniqlo is the second major international retailer to open at Indooroopilly shopping centre following the arrival of H&M earlier this year. The centre’s GM, Leah Mienert, said the addition of Uniqlo adds to its extensive line up of international and Australian designer brands.

“That Uniqlo has chosen Indooroopilly shopping centre as one if its first stores to open in Queensland, is testament to the strength of the centre, its reputation as a leading retail destination, and its loyal customer base,” Mienert said.

Uniqlo first opened in Australia at Emporium in Melbourne in April 2014, and has more than 1500 stores in 16 markets worldwide including Japan, Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, and the US.
