Engagement tech could be next big thing for retail
Queensland University of Technology and Corporate Initiatives (CI) have unveiled a massive LED screen that it says indicates screen interactivity is possible on a grand scale.
The new technology provides a large-scale interactive experience where people can interact in ways more appropriate to a giant display many times their size. It enables the “swooshing” of content from a tablet device to the main display, and automatically enable “Gesture and Swipe” interactivity via Kinect cameras. This is similar to the experience developed for Sega World, the global chain of theme parks and tourist destination in Japan.
QUT said the new technique will be deployed across a range of facilities in the years ahead, but especially retail.
According to CI, QUT’s giant screen is able to run 15 videos on the wall simultaneously, with all of them manageable interactively. Up to ten participants can interact with the wall at the same time. Audio is zoned to five individual segments and there is also an inbuilt 3D interactive games engine.
The ultra-high definition LED display measures a total of 17.5 metres across all three sections with a height of 2.6m, totalling around 42sqm.
