Shoppers won’t splash serious cash online
The research, which involved a survey of 750 people from across Australia between the ages 18 to 65, found that 3 per cent would spend up to $20,000 online, and 1.6 per cent would spend up to one million dollars.
Convenience and finding a good deal were the top drivers for online shopping, however the vast majority of shoppers surveyed still prefer to travel to the nearest store to shop for certain products including groceries (93 per cent), accessories such as bags and jewellery (93 per cent), clothing (89 per cent), financial services and insurance (89 per cent), electrical goods (86 per cent), beauty products (94 per cent) and medical items (97 per cent).
“Whilst the research suggests that online shoppers are becoming more trusting and comfortable with making purchases online, we’re still not ready as consumers to part with serious cash over the internet,” said Isabella Marco, marketing manager at the deals website.
“What we’re seeing is that people really value the convenience and access to great deals you get shopping online, but shopping is still viewed as an activity which involves going into a physical store for many products.
“Ultimately, shoppers love a good discount and a great experience, something which online retailers are increasingly providing. Retail therapy, after all, is a genuine leisure activity for Aussies – shopping should make people feel happy.”
The research also found 84 per cent feel more satisfaction when they buy something and it’s been discounted; while 5 per cent decide to buy something online vs in-store because they find it more enjoyable.
