Cue launches Chinese mobile payment platforms in-store

CueClothingCo1Fashion retailer Cue Clothing has become the first Australian fashion retailer to offer Alipay and WeChat pay at its Australian network of standalone stores.

The deal means Chinese consumers can shop at Cue, Veronika Maine and Dion Lee using the mobile payment platforms.

WeChat is one of the largest social media and messaging platforms in the world, with over 900 million daily active users with its pay function allowing users seamless access to pay with their local currency, Yuan, when shopping in Australia.

Alipay is the third largest payment platform in the world and has over 500 million users.

Cue has partnered with RoyalPay to launch the payment options in Australia.

“We have seen continued growth from Chinese customers shopping with us, particularly over the Chinese New Year period,” said Shane Lenton, Cue Clothing, chief information officer.

“During this time, Australia was the biggest market for cross-border WeChat payments outside of Asia.

“It made sense for us to introduce these new and innovative payment methods nationally, across our large network of standalone stores.”

Recent Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) data found China nudges New Zealand as Australia’s largest inbound market, and contributes the greatest spend to Australian tourism exports at more than $10 billion.

In January, the women’s fashion retailer also became the first national bricks and mortar retailer to launch three-hour delivery across the country.
