7-Eleven appoints new non-executive director

Marina Go 7-ElevenConvenience store chain 7-Eleven has appointed a new-non executive director to its board.

Marina Go, chair of the Wests Tigers NRL Club and Office Brands, Australia’s largest independent business suppliers group, will join 7-Eleven as the retailer pursues its growth and transformation strategy.

Chairman Michael Smith said Go’s extensive experience across digital and traditional media, retail and franchising, compliance and governance will add to the strength and diversity of 7-Eleven’s board.

“With the business pursuing a significant growth and transformation strategy, Marina’s remarkable career and insights will significantly enhance the board’s contribution,” Smith said.

“Further, as we seek to deepen our understanding of the many cultures within our business and franchise network, Marina’s unique perspective will propel our journey.”

Go is a non-executive director of EnergyAustralia, Autosports Group, the Walkley Foundation and chair of the advisory board for the Centre for Media Transition at The University of Technology Sydney and has previously served on sporting, cultural, retail and not-for-profit Boards. She is also on the advisory boards of the Australian Republic Movement and Background, an innovative marketing agency startup.

The appointment comes as a potential class action against 7-Eleven looms, with bank ANZ to also be targeted by a law firm seeking damages after the convenience chain was forced to pay back millions of dollars to thousands of workers after it was revealed in 2015 that there’d been rampant wage theft across hundreds of stores.
