Asos’ phenomenal growth

AsosE-commerce fashion darling, Asos, has reported a sales increase of almost 50 per cent for the three months to August 31.

Asos has reported total retail sales up 47 per cent at £207.9 million, with total retail sales for the year ended August up 40 per cent to £753.8 million.

On a year on year basis, total sales grew 40 per cent.

Asos launched a dedicated Australian site in September 2011, which has since has grown to be Asos’ second largest territory outside its home of the UK. It launched an Australian mobile site in September 2012.

International sales make up 64 per cent of the retailer’s total business, and grew 44 per cent year on year

Asos CEO, Nick Robertson, said he was pleased to report a strong finish to the financial year.

“Retail sales growth during Q4 was strong in both the UK up 49 per cent, and internationally at 47 per cent. International growth continues to be driven by the countries in which we have dedicated websites and in-country teams, and was particularly strong in Europe, driven by France, Germany, Italy and Spain,” said Robertson.

“We also saw strong growth in the US and in Russia following the launch of our Russian website.

“We expect profit before tax for the year ended 31 August 2013 to be marginally above expectations.”
