Australian dollar rises

dollar1The Australian dollar is slightly higher despite falls on Wall Street, which were sparked by the cancellation of the US-North Korea Summit.

At 0635 AEST on Friday, the local currency was worth 75.80 US cents, from 75.63 US cents on Thursday.

US stocks fell on Thursday after President Donald Trump canceled a planned historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and threatened tariffs on auto imports while trade tensions with China simmered.

One Australian dollar buys 82.81 Japanese yen, from 82.87 yen and 64.64 euro cents, from 64.56 euro cents.
