The Australian dollar slid by more than a per cent from Wednesday’s close of 71.81 US cents, but showed signs of recovery at 0800 AEST on Thursday to buy 71.09 US cents.

One Australian dollar buys 81.35 Japanese yen, from 81.70 ; 61.88 euro cents, from 62.01 ; 54.90 British pence, from 55.22 and 109.04 NZ cents, from 109.12.
