Book chain boosted by online

QBD bookshopThe director of Australia’s largest company owned book chain, QBD The Bookshop, says embracing the online world has helped the chain expand its store numbers.

As well as launching eBooks and an eReader app, the book chain also trialed an online twitter book club and ran a social media campaign tapping into the “hipster” scene.

QBD The Bookshop’s director, Mark Robinson, said launching online and social media campaigns have helped store numbers grow by 19 per cent in the past 18 months.

“We’ve had some great feedback from QBD The Bookshop’s highly engaged Facebook and Twitter followers about the campaigns and initiatives launched during the past year,” said Robinson.

“The QBD Book Hipster competition was our most successful campaign this year and saw us release a series of YouTube videos, heightened interaction through our social media platforms and the creation of a microsite,” he said.

The QBD Book Hipster campaign exceeded the objective number of entries by 400 per cent and also saw a number of publishing houses help share the campaign on social media including Pan Macmillan, Allen & Unwin, Harper Collins, Penguin Books Aus, Mills & Boon, SCIS, and Rough Draft Books.
