Bulky sales increases

Apple Sage display lollies chocolateBulking up can increase retailers’ food sales by up to 40 per cent, according to shop fitout company, DDI.

Local food store, Go Natural, experienced a huge jump in sales when it ripped out its old style displays.

Go Natural is reporting a 30 per cent to 40 per cent increase in sales due to its new displays – bulky ‘trade fixtures’ dispensers.

Shoppers are also buying items from the dispensers that they previously shunned.

“Not only do bulk dispensers increase sales they improve presentation throughout the store by enhancing the customer buying experience,” says Mark Collins, DDI’s senior category manager.

“By optimising space, retailers can offer a large variety of products within a small area without the look of overcrowding.

“They will maximise sales, profitability, and floor space. But most of all, bulk foods are fun and encourage impulse purchases.”

DDI’s top tips for increasing sales include eye-catching designs to appeal to customers and creative displays.

It also suggests natural displays that blend into the rest of the store, according to results from another health food store in Melbourne.

“The bulk offering is the best performing section of the store now,” says Leo Watling, owner of Apples and Sage Organic Wholefoods.

“We’ve had a lot of enquires and positive feedback about the new bulk fitouts in the store.”
