BurgerFuel Opens in Blacktown, SydneyBurgerFuel Worldwide, the New Zealand-based gourmet burger chain, will open five additional franchised stores in Australia in early 2015.

The new locations are in Sydney, the Gold Coast, and Brisbane, with additional sites also being considered.

The company plans to open the stores, which will be managed by new or existing franchisees, before March 31, 2015.

Burgerfuel first opened in Australia in 2007 in Newtown, Sydney. Last month, the gourmet burger chain opened its second Australian store in Blacktown in Sydney’s west.

Josef Roberts, Burgerfuel Group CEO, said although the company’s biggest project is the upcoming US expansion, the Australasian project team is focusing heavily on the Australian market where the company sees lots of opportunity for the brand.

“We’re looking forward to developing a sizeable footprint throughout Australia over the coming years,” Roberts said.

BurgerFuel began in Auckland in 1995, and now has more than 30 stores across New Zealand.

Earlier this month, the chain opened its first store in Kuwait with partner, Al Khayyat Investments (AKI).

BurgerFuel now has stores in several markets in the Middle East North Africa region (MENA), including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
