A cafe chain on wheels

Woofys food hot dogMove over, food trucks. A new form of mobile retail is trending globally: food carts.

Food carts are typically associated with greasy New York hot dog sellers or dodgy carnival food.

Now a Swedish retail concept, Wheely’s Cafe, is leading a franchise concept that’s a little more boutique.

The unconventional coffee franchise involves a bike with a solar-powered battery.

The setup includes a coffee machine, sink, storage, and an umbrella to protect customers.

Per Cromwell, co-founder of Wheely’s parent company, told FactCoExist that Wheely’s is about targeting shoppers with an alternative to bricks and mortar coffee chains.

“We love the small independent coffee shops but can’t but admit that belonging to a brand is an advantage,” he says.

“We think we’ll challenge Starbucks more with a branded coffee instead of an unbranded one.

“The last 40 years has seen this huge success of the global brands.”

Wheely’s Cafe is currently raising funds on Indiegogo and is offering franchised carts for $1800.

Swedish entrepreneurs aren’t the only ones that have been re-conceiving the traditional food cart.

This year, local concept Woofys (pictured) has been selling American style hot dogs at events across Sydney.

Woofys markets itself as a pop up food concept, and has catered events for General Pants Co through to Red Bull.

Last year, Crust Gourmet Pizza also launched a roving dinner table concept, the Upper Crust Bicycle.
