Carl’s Jr to open down under

 

-3US burger giant, Carl’s Jr, is heading to Australia after partnering with a local franchise group.

CKE Restaurants, parent company of Carl’s Jr. has signed a development agreement with Australia’s BKG Group to develop, open, and operate 10 Carl’s Jr. restaurants in central, mid, and northern New South Wales.

Michael Woida, senior VP of CKE, told Inside Retail the first store is expected to open by the end of the year on the Central Coast.

Franchises are currently being sought for capital cities, with Woida expecting an inner city location, most likely in Sydney, to open within the next 18 months.

Carl’s, America’s fifth largest fast food restaurant, aims to open around 300 Australian stores in the next 10 to 15 years.

“We’ve got an overall target in Australia of about 300 stores and we believe the majority will probably fall between NSW and Queensland.”

Carl’s, the flagship chain of CKE Restaurants, has almost 3000 restaurants in the US, and 300 stores globally across 27 countries.
