Chemmart’s local push

chemmartChemmart  Pharmacy has launched the first stage of a new e-commerce initiative in Tasmania.

The new initiative takes a localised approach to online shopping, allowing each pharmacy to manage its own online store, including its online range and pricing with profits being directed back to the store – unlike traditional retail e-commerce sites which tend to operate from one central location with profits kept by the corporate entity.

Jonathan Layton, executive director of Chemmart,  explains that customers can visit Chemmart online and select their local store before making an order that is then picked, packed, and despatched by the selected store.

“From a customer perspective, this local approach has the benefit of continuity of care and the convenience of being able to choose between speedy home delivery or collecting the order at their local pharmacy,” Layton said.

Localisation also benefits the pharmacy by helping to strengthen the relationship between pharmacy staff and customers. The initiative ensures Chemmart Pharmacies has a strong online presence and remains relevant as customers increasingly seek the freedom to choose where and how they shop.

“Through our e-commerce solution, customers can now continue to shop with their local Chemmart Pharmacy in a way that suits their lifestyle, knowing that their health needs are being looked after by the pharmacy team they know and trust.”

The program has additional advantages such as enabling customers to earn and redeem reward points online and instore, plus providing a wider range of products regardless of the size of the local store. Customers can also book Chemmart health checks and other health services online as part of the new initiative.
