Coles Little Shop makes Christmas comeback

The elves have been busy at Coles, with the supermarket giant today confirming a Christmas edition of the hugely popular Little Shop promotion.

A spokesperson for Coles told Inside FMCG that “five new festive collectables” will be available for customers from next week.

“Santa’s little secret is out of the stocking and the Little Shop supermarket surprises that took Australia by storm are making a mini comeback for Christmas,” the spokesperson said.

The five collectors items are mini versions of much-loved Christmas fare including mince pies, a pavlova slab, Christmas crackers (bon bons), a gingerbread biscuit and a limited edition Coles gingerbread ice-cream.

Customers will receive one free Christmas mini collectable for every $30 they spend in store from December 7, while stocks last.

There will also be a limited number of special-edition Christmas stocking collector cases available for purchase for $4.

“We were blown away with customer feedback to Little Shop when it launched in July this year so we wanted to bring customers a little extra as a surprise this Christmas.”

Earlier today, a leaked internal message informing Coles staff of a new Christmas campaign surfaced on one of the many Little Shop swap groups on Facebook, raising speculation that there was a new campaign in the works.

The original Little Shop campaign which ran for eight weeks from July this year, proved to be a hit with customers, and marked a huge turnaround for Coles after backlash over the plastic bag ban.

The supermarket giant enjoyed a 5 per cent jump in sales for the first quarter of 2019 mostly thanks to the popular promotion.

Earlier this month, rival Woolworths launched its own range of Christmas collectables. Woolworths Christmas Pop-Outs features 12 Christmas-themed cardboard characters that shoppers can build themselves.
