Two Australian pizza chains are getting creative on wheels. Retail Food Group-owned chain, Crust Gourmet Pizza, has collaborated with a not for profit organisation to launch a series of musical pop up gigs on public transport, while a Melbourne-based pizzeria has become the first  business to partner with the controversial Uber car service.

Pizza Melt, which allows customers to custom make their own pizzas, is offering free delivery via Uber car service to customers within a 3km radius of its  Chapel St store for orders more than $35.

Google-backed Uber’s newly launched UberX car service, available in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane is a lower cost alternative to booking taxis, however, the legality of the service is being questioned by state governments and the taxi service commissions.

“Our pizza is very traditional, but there’s nothing traditional about how we run Australia’s most innovative pizza joint,” Dan Gold, owner of Pizza Melt, said.

“We set out to focus on the dine in and takeaway experience, however, we heard about Uber and thought we would give the unique experience a go.”

Crust serves up musical surprise

Meanwhile, Crust, is targeting unsuspecting commuters on Melbourne’s busy trams with series of pop up gigs, ‘Crust Tram Jams’, in partnership with not for profit organisation, Tram Sessions.

Crust, in partnership with Tram Sessions, will hold up to five Tram Jams this month.

Michael Rose, MD of Crust, said the chain strongly supports grassroots projects, Australian music, and community initiatives.

“As a proud supporter of Tram Sessions, Crust is supporting local emerging artists and established Australian artists by bringing the Crust Tram Jams to life,” said Rose.

“We are happy to have partnered with Tram Sessions to ensure these great community initiatives can thrive.”

The Crust Tram Jam kicked off with Melbourne-based indie pop folk band Tully on Tully, and will continue to play throughout May with performances scheduled by Kingswood and All The Colours.
