David Jones to open boutique

David Jones, emporiumDavid Jones will open a ’boutique’ department store at Sydney’s Barangaroo in October 2016.

The store will be approximately 1400sqm, one-tenth of the size of the average David Jones store or half the size of Chadstone’s Legoland, and will range men’s and women’s fashion and a luxury edit of beauty accessories curated specifically for the Barangaroo clientele.

David Jones CEO, Ian Nairn, said it would be the department store’s first CBD store to be built in 16 years.

“David Jones is dedicated to a customer-first strategy and Barangaroo is a great example of that coming life. The new flexible store format that will premiere at Barangaroo provides us with a strategic growth opportunity in areas where our core customers are, without being restricted to a shopping centre environment,” Nairn said.

Barangaroo, the waterfront commercial, residential and retail precinct being built by Lendlease, is expected to attract 38,000 professionals onsite and in its immediate vicinity, as well as footfall from domestic and international visitors to Sydney.

The new David Jones boutique will include premium services including a private shopping suite with style advisors and a click and collect service.

“Click and collect is our considered response to the growing demand from customers to have greater shopping flexibility. Whilst the merchandise offer will be curated specifically to service the Barangaroo customer, we also intend to offer the convenience of shopping from our broader range of brands and collecting online purchases at a time that suits their busy schedules,” Nairn said.
