Decathlon continues expansion Down Under

DecathlonFrench sporting goods retailer Decathlon will open two stores in Victoria in November of this year.

After announcing the opening of its second store in Australia, and first in Victoria, in Box Hill South in June, the retailer has announced plans to open a second store in Knoxfield. Both stores are set to start trading in November.

At over 3800sqm in size, the two Melbourne-area stores will feature Decathlon’s extensive range of affordable sporting products. The range represents over 70 sports and includes than 7000 products.

A section of the front of each store is dedicated to community sports clubs, providing an area where they can hold sign-up days, host BBQs and hold other fundraising events.

“We are extremely pleased to be expanding our presence across Australia,” Decathlon Australia CEO Olivier Robinet said.

“Building on the success of our website and our first store in Tempe, Sydney, we want to maintain the momentum by opening further stores across Australia.”

The retailer opened its first store in Tempe, Sydney, in 2017. It plans to open another store in Auburn, Sydney, this year and up to five new stores in Victoria within the next two years.

The retailer operates 1200 stores in 30 countries around the globe and employees 80,000 staff worldwide, with up to 100 people in each store.

“Our expansion means that we will be providing jobs for hundreds of Australians,” Robinet
