Diamond and gold – from a vending machine

Indian jeweller and retailer Gitanjali Group has launched a gold and diamond vending machine – the world’s first ever.

The gold and diamond machine, a part of the Gitanjali’s umbrella branding “Go for Gold”, was inaugurated at Phoenix High St, Mumbai’s largest shopping mall located at Lower Parel.

The vending machine features 36 products of various designs, sizes and prices which range from 1000 rupees – 30,000 rupees ($20 – $600). Purchasers can choose products that are displayed on touch screen and can pay via debit card, credit card or cash.

“The machine is a first of its kind anywhere in the world and will further revolutionise the processes by which precious metals and jewellery is bought,” said Gitanjali Export Corporation CEO Sanjeev Agarwal.

The gold and diamond vending machine dispenses gold and silver coins, diamond studded jewellery and pendants with religious motifs. The machine is ideal for last minute purchasing and provides purchasers with instant gratification.

In the coming months, Gitanjali plans to set up more gold and diamond dispensers in airports, shopping malls and temples.
