DJs names new chairman

 

David Jones logoDavid Jones has appointed former Origin Energy chairman, Gordon Cairns, as the department store’s new non executive director and chairman.

Cairns’ appointment comes following the resignation of current chairman, Peter Mason, and two other directors following investor anger over controversial share trading.

Cairns has more than 10 years experience as a public company director. He recently retired from Westpac Banking Corporation Limited after nine years on the board and is currently the chairman of Origin Energy Limited.

From 1997 to 2004 Cairns was CEO of Lion Nathan Ltd and prior to this he held a wide range of senior executive roles internationally with PepsiCo, Imperial Group PLC, and Cadbury Schweppes PLC.

In addition he chaired Rebel Group before its sale and currently is the chairman of Quick Service Restaurant Holdings.

Jane Harvey, deputy chairman, said Gordon brings with him extensive experience as a chairman and CEO of large publicly listed companies as well as an intrinsic understanding of retailing and businesses with a strong customer centric focus.

“He has outstanding corporate governance credentials in his capacity as chairman and non executive director of a number of ASX Top 20 companies.We look forward to working closely with Gordon and the management team to continue the successful implementation of the company’s future strategic direction plan,” Harvey said.
