Ebay brings in AMEX talent for top marketing role

Julie NestorEbay has brought in talent from American Express to replace Tim MacKinnon as chief marketing officer.

Julie Nestor, previously American Express’ vice president of consumer marketing, will join as CMO for the marketplace.

The appointment fills a vacancy left by MacKinnon when he was promoted to ANZ managing director last year, replacing Jooman Park.

Nestor will join the business at one of the most disruptive times in its Australian history, with the launch of Amazon locally late last year.

In a statement MacKinnon said the hire was a “strategic move” for the business.

“Julie brings a wealth of experience in consumer marketing, loyalty, payments and in partnering with Australian retailers,” he said.

At AMEX Nestor was responsible for developing digital capabilities, such as overseeing its implementation of digital wallets in Australia and designing card loyalty programs.

She also held a range of other roles for the credit card business over a period of more than eleven years.

Nestor said on Tuesday that she was “looking forward to a new challenge” at Ebay.

“My role at American Express has given me an understanding of data, online and what merchants need to grow their sales,” Nestor said.

“Retail, especially online, is in an extremely dynamic period and I’m looking forward to working closely with the eBay leadership team to help 40,000 Australian retailers to grow their businesses.”

Prior to American Express Nestor held several roles with Optus.
