Online marketplace, Etsy, has launched gift cards for Australian-based buyers.

The new service allows Etsy members with an Australian credit card and shipping address to purchase gift cards for use in the global Etsy marketplace which has more than 1.2 million shops.

Gift cards are already available in the US and Europe, with the Australian launch timed to take advantage of last minute Valentine’s Day shopping.

The local gift card release highlights Etsy’s commitment to international markets and in particular Australia.

Helen Souness, MD Etsy, Australia and Asia, said Etsy is excited to expand its offering in Australia.

“They’ve proven a great success in our US and EU markets and we look forward to seeing Australian buyers sharing the Etsy experience through these new gift cards,” Souness said.
