Groupon, Westfield in Aussie partnership

Westfield and Groupon Australia have revealed ‘Groupon Powered by Westfield’ – a partnership between one of the world’s largest shopping centre groups and the world’s largest group buying site that will offer value deals from Westfield retailers in Australia.

Set to launch on February 29, Groupon Powered by Westfield will enable shoppers to save up to 70 per cent off products and services from Westfield’s retail offer across fashion, beauty, travel, entertainment and food.

The new Groupon partnership will coincide with Westfield’s launch of an online “deals and sales” hub on westfield.com.au that brings together the best of Westfield’s online and local centre deals across thousands of retailers and brands. The hub will be a one-stop shop for the best of in-store and online deals.

Robert Jordan, Westfield Australia, US and NZ MD, said Westfield is the first shopping centre in Australia to provide shoppers with an exclusive range of group buying deals in a comprehensive hub of online and in centre specials & offers.

“With over 60 per cent of shoppers researching online before heading in store, and value a key driver of purchases online, it’s important that Westfield provides great deals online that drive shoppers into Westfield centres or onto westfield.com.au,” said Jordan.

“By partnering with Groupon Australia, a company that has achieved significant growth since launching one year ago and was market leader in December 2011, Westfield retailers can tap into the thriving group buying marketplace and target new shoppers.”

Groupon Australia CEO, Tobias Teuber, said the new Westfield collaboration would open the daily deals market to “a whole new world of highly sought after products and services from trusted brands and retailers”.

“As the world’s most popular daily deal site, Groupon is confident that this partnership will give us the opportunity to expand our deals on a host of new products and services that Australians recognise and love,” said Teuber.

“The group buying market generated $498.4 million in 2011 and is forecasted to reach over $1 billion in 2015[1]. Over 90 per cent of retailers in Australia are yet to use group buying as a marketing tool which presents a big opportunity for Westfield retailers to drive new traffic and repeat sales[2].”

Shoppers will be incentivised to join the Groupon Powered by Westfield database through a promotion live now. Group buying offers will be available to database members from 29 February 2012.

Subscribers to Groupon Powered by Westfield will receive new deals weekly. To access the Groupon Powered by Westfield deals, shoppers must sign up to the Groupon Powered by Westfield portal on westfield.com.au or on Groupon.com.au. Deals can also be purchased via the Groupon and Westfield free mobile apps.
