H&M moving into Hobart

H&MGlobal fashion retailer Hennes & Mauritz AB (H&M) will open its first Tasmanian store in Hobart during the first half of 2018.

The Swedish-based international retailer will launch its first store in the state at the Cat and Fiddle Arcade.

“We have always seen Tasmania as an important market and we are looking forward to finally introducing the H&M brand to Hobart and showing our customers the unique retail experience our brand has to offer,” said Hans Andersson, Australian country manager for H&M.

H&M has steadily increased its Australian footprint after first entering the market in 2014. Further new stores announced by the retailer include H&M at Mandurah Forum, WA.

In December last year, the fashion chain announced it will open on Alibaba’s Tmall platform during spring of this year.

The fast fashion giant saw sales slow over the last three months of 2017, leading to Johan Persson, CEO of the H&M group asserting the retailer will to “more store closures and fewer openings.
