KFC to host kitchen tours

KFC kitchenKFC Australia will open its kitchens to the public for the first time for its inaugural Open Kitchen Day.

To be held on August 23, kitchens at 160 KFC outlets across Australia will conduct behind the scenes tours to show customers how its Original Recipe Chicken is cooked.

KFC Australia CMO, Nikki Lawson, said many customers are mistaken in thinking all KFC cooks do is drop frozen chicken into a deep fryer”.

“There’s a lot more to it than that,” says Lawson. “We take a lot of pride in our unique cooking process, hand coating our fresh chicken with flour and The Colonel’s 11 secret herbs and spices throughout the day to deliver the iconic taste people know and love.”

Open Kitchen Day will be hosted by KFC restaurant GMs, with customers required to book in to be taken on a free 30 minute tour where they’ll be shown how KFC makes its famous Original Recipe chicken.

In addition to the tour, participants will receive two free pieces of the Original Recipe chicken cooked in front of them during the tour.

“While KFC is perceived as a fast food company, we don’t take short cuts on freshness when it comes to our food,” said Fritz Meyer, KFC’s chief food innovation and technology officer.

“At least 97 per cent of our bone in chicken, chicken fillets, and strips are delivered fresh to store, not frozen, and are sourced locally from reputable Australian suppliers like Inghams, Steggles, and Golden Farms – the same ones you find in the supermarket every day.”

Each week, KFC receives 32 tonnes of lettuce, 16 tonnes of tomatoes, 70 tonnes of fresh burger buns, and 16 tonnes of fresh dinner rolls.
