Noodle chain collapses

wagamamaEdible Concepts Holdings (ECH), the Australian arm of UK-based Japanese noodle franchise, Wagamama, has been placed in liquidation after failing to find a buyer.

Nathan Vance Landrey of FTI Consulting was appointed as liquidator on September 25.

The UK-based restaurant and noodle bar franchise opened its first outlet in Australia in Sydney in 1992.

Inside Retail understands Wagamama had up to 10 stores trading across Australia at its peak, however, all restaurants have now closed.

Wagamama confirmed the news on its website stating, “We are disappointed to inform you that we have recently closed all of our Wagamama restaurants in Australia. We are currently looking for a new franchise partner and we’re hoping that some of our restaurants will be re-opening soon. We will keep you updated as soon as we have any news to share.”

It was reported earlier this month that ECH was in talks with local and international buyers and restaurant operators.

Wagamama Australia was placed in voluntary administration in November 2013.
