Retail spending rises

shopping, retail, emporium, centreRetail spending figures out on Tuesday are expected to show a second solid monthly gain as lower petrol prices and interest rates gave consumers more money to spend.

Retail sales are forecast to have risen 0.4 per cent in February, equal to the gain made in January, their fastest rise in three months.

Westpac economists said falling petrol prices and the February interest rate cut are likely to have supported spending.
