Retailers look to the future

 

retail leaders forum 14Outgoing Coles MD, Ian McLeod, was the standout at this year’s Retail Leaders Forum, which attracted more than 450 retail executives and reflected an industry full of customer focused innovation and new retail initiatives.

McLeod was the force behind Coles’ transformation, which he explained to the captive audience.

Other highlights included Ian Moir of Woolworths (South Africa), owners of the Country Road Group, making the case for responsible retail; Redmond Yeung of Gap (China) describing the brand’s impressive adaption to respond to the needs of the Chinese market; and a high tech presentation from Karen Stocks of Twitter on the expanding opportunities for customer engagement.

Other speakers headlining the event were:

  • Lindy Rawlinson of Neiman Marcus Direct (USA) presented the case for effective multi-channel retail by harmonising the online, in store and catalogue experience
  • Peter Williams incoming chairman of Boohoo.com and formerly of ASOS and Selfridges used his extensive retail experience to offer timely advice for growth in a changing sector
  • Philip Corne of Louis Vuitton offered the view of the current retail market from a timeless luxury brand with an impressive reputation that is built by customer engagement.
