Rozelle store owner charged

policeA Sydney store owner has been charged with murder and starting a fire for financial gain over an explosion in the city’s inner west that killed three people.

Adeel Khan, 44, from Greenacre in Sydney’s southwest, will remain in hospital under police guard after he was charged with three counts of murder, three counts of manslaughter, two counts of attempted murder and 17 other charges.

He has been in hospital since the blast that claimed the lives of Bianka O’Brien, 31, her baby boy Jude and neighbour Chris Noble, 27, three weeks ago.

He is expected to face a bedside hearing later on Tuesday.

Since the explosion and subsequent fire that destroyed a building on Rozelle’s Darling Street just after 4am on September 4, police have treated it as suspicious.

Khan and two other people were injured in the fire, and he has been in a serious condition in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital since emergency services dug him out of the debris.

Detectives initially visited the 44 year old in hospital just days after the explosion.
