Sam’s Warehouse, Crazy Clark’s in receivership

Sams warehouse, jan cameronThe parent company of discount retail chains Sam’s Warehouse and Crazy Clark’s has been placed in receivership, two years after being rescued from liquidation.

David Winterbottom and Rahul Goyal of corporate advisory firm, KordaMentha Restructuring, have been appointed receivers and managers of Discount Superstore Group (DSG) Holdings Australia.

DSG Holdings is owned by Kathmandu founder Jan Cameron and operates 143 stores across Australia under the Crazy Clarks and Sam’s Warehouse banners.

A KordaMentha Restructuring spokesperson said the company had taken control of the day to day operations and were working with management to explore options.

“We will be immediately exploring the going concern sale of the profitable Crazy Clarks and Sam’s Warehouse stores to interested parties,” KordaMentha’s Rahul Goyal said.

“All stores are currently in sale mode so there should be plenty of great value to be had for our customers whilst we work through that process.”

Last month, closing down sales had commenced at Sam’s Warehouse and Crazy Clark’s outlets across the country.

The Kathmandu founder reclaimed Retail Adventures in February 2013, three months after it was placed in administration.

DSG Holdings purchased the business back for $58.9 million.

DSG employs about 2500 people, and has a distribution centre in Queensland and a head office at North Ryde in Sydney.
