Alliance Pharmacy opens daigou export outlet

Alliance Pharmacy, a chain of 100 pharmacies from the Australian Pharmacy Alliance, has opened a dedicated retail space for daigou shoppers looking to buy local products on behalf of their Chinese clients and ship them overseas.

The store in Sydney carries a range of Australian and New Zealand-made healthcare, cosmetics and infant care products, such as baby formula, skin care and vitamins, from popular healthcare brands such as Blackmore’s, Oli6 Goat’s Milk Formula, Nestle Nutritional Formula, Bio Island Kids Vitamins and Natio Skincare.

The aim is to showcase new and emerging Australian-made brands and give daigous a place to engage with local products. It has been designed specifically to be convenient for bulk purchasing and international delivery is available on site.

“Alliance Pharmacy and AHPC [Australian Health Products Central] are proud to introduce this type of retail initiative to service the export market more efficiently and effectively. We see this as an opportunity to bring trusted Australian brands to the international market,” said Alliance Pharmacy’s managing director Simon Reynolds (pictured above with AHPC president Xing Mao).

Australia Post opened a similar export store in Sydney in May.

Driven by daigous

In May, the Australian Pharmacy Alliance and DaigouSales launched a program called Slingshot, which gave brands that were likely to be popular with Chinese shoppers prominent displays in over 650 member pharmacies, as well as marketing and logistics services.

Australian Pharmacy Alliance chief executive Darren Dye positioned the move as a way to catch up to Chemist Warehouse, which he estimated rakes in about $1 billion of its $4 billion annual turnover from daigou, according to a report by the Australian Financial Review at the time.

Founded in 2002, Pharmacy Alliance is an independent national pharmacy group with over 600 members. Alliance Pharmacy reached 100 stores across Australia earlier this year.
