Swiss ice cream chain, Movenpick, have opened their largest boutique in Australasia with the opening of a franchise in Sydney’s CBD.

The new store, opened earlier this week on George Street, adds to the company’s network of 300 boutiques worldwide with 25 situated across Australia.

“Consumers are moving from cheap fast food, such as hamburgers to more upmarket offerings, and the same trend is evident in the dessert category,” said Movenpick country business manager, Dennis Koorey. “There is strong demand for premium ice cream that is different.”

The boutique’s footprint of 175sqm includes a coffee lounge, modern booths, communal banquettes and wooden benches.

“There has been a clear shift in the dessert market, and a new category of late-night dining has emerged,” said Koorey. “More people are eating their meals at their casual dining restaurant, or go to the movies or other entertainment, and having a dessert at specialist venues.”

All Movenpick ice cream is made in Switzerland with no artificial additives,  artificial flavourings or artificial colours. Nestlé acquired its brand rights in 2003 and have kept it as an independent unit ‘in order to maintain the specific savoir-faire of the Maîtres Glaciers.’
