Topshop continues NZ expansion

Topshop LondonChristchurch is the next destination for iconic fashion retailer Topshop in New Zealand.

The two-level flagship store will open on the corner of Cashel and Colombo streets in early 2017 and include the brand’s Topman male fashion line. It will be part of The Crossing development, which is under construction in the city’s retail precinct.

Covering 1200sqm, the store will receive weekly deliveries from London where the Topshop empire is based. Fashion labels will include Unique and Boutique, as well as makeup, shoes and accessories.

Crossing developer, Philip Carter, is a part owner of Top Retail, which has the rights to the Topshop Topman stores in NZ.

When Top Retail opened its first NZ store in Auckland in March to much hype, shoppers queued for three blocks along Queen St. The brand has 500 stores in 40 countries.

Carter said securing a store for Christchurch was a significant step for the retail precinct. It signals that leading worldwide brands are keen to have a presence in the central city.

“Topshop Topman had plenty of options to site their flagship store in Christchurch but were attracted to the fact The Crossing will be a world-class development, the quality of which has never been seen before in the South Island.”

The $140 million Crossing will cover the one ha block between Cashel, Colombo, Lichfield and High streets. Combining new and refitted heritage buildings, it will house retail, hospitality, and office tenants and include a parking building.
