Walmart debuts TV show

walmartWalmart has debuted an online reality television show to promote its entrepreneur kickstarter contest, Get on the Shelf.

The five part web series chronicles the stories of 20 competitors in a similar style to X Factor or America’s Got Talent.

Get on the Shelf aims to introduce shoppers to previously unheard of brands by giving winners a chance to sell online or instore.

“The web series creates more exposure for finalists to share their inspiring stories,” says Kelly Thompson, Walmart.com’s senior VP of merchandising.

“[It] makes for captivating reality TV that’s also interactive since American consumers can vote for the next great product,” she says.

The premiere episode of Get on the Shelf showcases four entrepreneurs with products grouped into a ‘Live Better’ category.

One fledgling businessman debuts an adjustable dog wheelchair while another unveils fashion-conscious headwear for chemotherapy patients.

Follow up episodes are based around kids product, gadgets, and American-made items, with each show having a 72 hour voting window.
