Woolworths, supermarket, wooliesTwo senior executives have walked from Woolworths this month, with several others also rumoured to be eyeing the door, just weeks after the supermarket giant announced it would shed an extra 400 jobs as part of  its restructure.

Woolworths confirmed to Fairfax Media this week that its director of customer experience, brand, and formats, Jess Gill, had left after two years with the retailer, including eight months as GM of marketing for supermarkets, with Gill’s departure just a week after the resignation of chief marketing officer, Tony Phillips.

According to Fairfax, Penny Winn, director of group retail services, and Emma Gray, Woolworths’ chief loyalty and data officer, are also rumoured to be planning to leave, however, Woolworths declined to confirm this.

The departures come after Woolworths made a number of new key leadership appointments in February within its food and liquor divisions, including the appointment of a new MD following the resignation of Tjeerd Jegen.

The supermarket  giant appointed former head of its liquor business, Brad Banducci, as the new MD of food and liquor, while David Chambers, who had been MD of Woolworths’ New Zealand Countdown chain for the last four years, was appointed as director of supermarkets.

In March, Woolworths appointed acting director of Woolworth’s Liquor Division, Martin Smith, who was appointed to the interim position from his previous role as GM of Dan Murphy’s as part of the management reshuffle, as the group’s MD.

Earlier this month,Woolworths outlined its three year growth strategy, based on a new ‘Lean Retail’ operating model, also announcing as part of the restructure that it would shed an extra 400 jobs, after already axing around 400 full time positions from its back office operations.
