Amazon opens review-driven store in New York

Online marketplace Amazon has unveiled a new physical store in SoHo, New York, which stocks items rated four-stars and above, are top sellers or are new and trending on Amazon.com.

The store, named Amazon 4-star, was created to be a reflection of Amazon’s customers – stocking only “what they’re buying and what they’re loving.”

“We started with some of the most popular categories on Amazon.com including devices, consumer electronics, kitchen, home, toys, books and games, and chose only the products that customers have rated 4 stars and above, or are top sellers, or are new and trending,” the company said in a blog post.

“Today, the average rating of all the products in Amazon 4-star is 4.4 stars, and collectively, the products in store have earned more than 1.8 million 5-star customer reviews.”

The store also features several ‘departments’ to assist customers, such as “Trending Around NYC”, which features products curated for NYC-area customers are purchasing on the online store; “Frequently Bought Together”; “Most-Wished-For”, a physical representation of the items most added to wish lists; as well as “Amazon Exclusives”.

Prime members will receive their discount, and customers who aren’t yet Prime members can sign up in-store to receive the benefit then-and-there.
